Pregnancy Week 14

Baby’s Growth During the 14th Week of Pregnancy

Week 14 is all about hair and facial expressions as your baby is measuring about 3 1/2 inches and weighs about 1 1/2 ounces.

Your baby’s facial muscles are getting a workout as tiny features form one expression after another learning to squint, frown, and grimace all thanks to brain impulses. The kidneys are producing urine which is releasing into the amniotic fluid, a process will continue until birth. Your baby can grasp, too, and if you have an ultrasound around this time you may catch your baby sucking their thumb!

The head is now sitting on a much more distinct neck and the body is now growing faster than the head. At the end of this week, the arms will have grown to a length that’s in proportion to the rest of the body though the legs still have more lengthening to do.

Lanugo, an ultra-fine hair is starting to cover your baby’s entire body and sprouts of hair are forming on the head and eyebrows.

The liver is starting to make bile this week and the spleen is starting to help in the production of red blood cells. And though you still can’t feel it, your baby is making tiny punches and kicks as your baby becomes more flexible and active.

Body Changes in the 14th Week of Pregnancy

Now that you’re officially in your second trimester of pregnancy, your breasts may be feeling a little less tender, your probably seeing a return of energy, and your queasiness may have completely disappeared now. Pregnancy aches may be beginning now as the muscles and ligaments that support your growing uterus are stretching. It might be a pain but it’s a sign that your body is finally starting to show that your pregnant.

The uterus is now a bit above your pubic bone and may be out enough to push your tummy out a tad. You may be thrilled as most women are happy to finally be showing signs of pregnancy as you and your partner have visible evidence of the baby you’re growing inside. Daydream, plan and enjoy this time.
