Pregnancy Week 29
Baby’s Growth During the 29th Week of Pregnancy
Reaching birth length but still has plenty of weight to gain, your baby is coming in at nearly 3 pounds and 17 inches long this week. Over the next 11 weeks, your baby will more than double and possibly come close to tripling in weight. And your baby’s weight gain occurs, your womb becomes cramped quarters and because of this, you’re less likely to feel heavy movements. As the weeks go on, the normal kicking, rolling and punching will turn into pokes by an elbow or knee as your baby moves.
Muscles and lungs are continuing to mature this week and the head is growing larger to make room for the expanding brain. With all this growing and maturing, your baby is needing at least 250 milligrams of calcium each day to harden the skeleton and bones. With the increasing need, it’s time for you to add more nutritional meals and snacks to your daily routine. Be sure to get plenty of protein, iron, vitamin C, folic acid, and calcium.
Body Changes in the 29th Week of Pregnancy
It’s common for your doctor to start giving you some homework to do with your baby. For example, you may need a non stress test or biophysical profile to check out your baby’s condition. You may also be asked to count kicks which will come with specific instructions.
During this stage of pregnancy, some women have something called “supine hypotensive syndrome” where laying flat on your back causes a change in heart rate and blood pressure that makes you feel dizzy until you change position. To prevent this, lie on your side rather than your back and move slowly as you go from lying down to sitting and then standing.
