Do I really need to “eat for two?”

Not really. Your body needs more vitamins and nutrients to keep you and baby health. But that doesn’t mean that you have to eat twice as much food as you previously did. In fact, just an extra 300 calories per day is all you need. Consider that a baked potato has 120 calories which shows it doesn’t take much food to work in the extra calories needed.

Additionally, during pregnancy, it is not recommended that you restrict your diet. Doing so many mean that your baby is not getting the right amounts of protein, vitamins, and minerals. ow-calorie diets can break down a pregnant woman’s stored fat. This can lead to the production of substances called ketones. Ketones can be found in the mother’s blood and urine and are a sign of starvation. Constant production of ketones can result in a mentally retarded child.
