Pregnancy Week 6

Baby’s Growth During the 6th Week of Pregnancy

Your baby’s cheeks, jaw, chin, eyes, nose, and ears are forming into that adorable face you’ll soon be kissing! Additional changes this week are to the kidneys, liver, and lungs as well which are developing.

Tiny arms and legs are just protruding buds now but his heart is beating between 100 to 160 times a minute. Nearly twice as fast as your own heart!

At just the length of a nail head from crown to bottom, your baby is changing quickly and causing your body to do some extra work and is not very big at all.

Body Changes in the 6th Week of Pregnancy

Though your body probably hasn’t changed on the outside, inside you are certainly pregnant as your kidneys are becoming significantly more efficient at ridding your body of waste and the pregnancy hormone hCG is causing an increase of blood flow to your pelvic area. Of course, add the fact that your growing uterus is already beginning to push down on your bladder, and it explains what’s causing the frequent visits to the restroom.

If you’re feeling waves of  being extra sensitive, crazy cranky, and super excited, it’s normal. Though it may not be what you want to hear, feeling moody one day and joyful the next is part of the fluctuating hormones of pregnancy.

Pregnancy Tip for Week 6

While your instinct may to be feed your growing baby, be careful with your diet during pregnancy. While you don’t want to restrict your caloric intake at all, you don’t want to increase it, either. During your first trimester, it is not recommended to increase your caloric intake, only starting in the second trimester is it recommended to supplement your diet with an additional 300 calories per day.
