Baby’s Growth During the 9th Week of Pregnancy

In the coming months your baby’s essential body parts will go through the fine tuning process – and now in your ninth week, they are all there. This week your baby’s heart will also finish dividing into four chambers and the valves start to form along with tiny teeth.

External genitalia is now present though it will still be a few more weeks before you know if your baby is male or female. The eyes are fully formed but the eyelids are fused shut and won’t open until the 27th week.

Your baby, about an inch long, also has tiny earlobes and the mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct. The placenta, now developed, can take over the most important job of producing hormones. And with your baby’s physiology finally in place, your fetus is geared up for rapid weight gain.
